They have dragons, lots of them! As you enter the portal to How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk at Epic Universe you are transported to the Viking Village where dragons and Vikings live together. Let’s get into all the details on the immersive world of How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk at Universal Epic Universe.

I have to be honest, with all the lands at Epic Universe I was probably least excited about the How to Train Your Dragon area. I enjoyed the movies but my kids are getting older and I didn’t think much about this area until I saw the concept art in March of 2024.

Then it quickly became one of my most anticipated lands to visit. In all honesty all of the lands at Epic Universe are impressive and unique in their own way, they do not disappoint.

Fast forward to our Annual Passholder Epic Universe preview day in April where I stepped foot into the Isle of Berk for the first time. It was stunning. There are meticulous attention to details from the wood carving benches to animatronics through the land. Isle of Berk is going to delight Universal park guests of all ages.

Insider Tip: Purchase tickets before you arrive to get the best deal and save time!

Rides at Isle of Berk

There are 3 rides and a play area at How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk. Hiccup’s Wing Glider is my favorite and a can’t miss one for families.

Dragon Racer’s Rally

Drago Racer’s Rally is a outdoor flat ride that has guests practicing their barrel rolls on a dragon-trainer. My family went on this and said it was fun. You could control the amount of spin your cart did and it was not too intense. Guests must be 48″ to ride and there is a child swap space available.

Fyre Drill

Fyre Drill is an interactive boat ride that you may get soaked on. We decided to save riding this for our summer trip to Universal but it looked like a family fun boat ride. Guests shoot targets and that determines how wet you get. From what I hear the blue targets will get you soaked, stick to the red targets for a less wet experience. There is no ride height requirement for this ride, child swap is available, and Universal Express Pass is accepted.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders

This family friendly rollercoaster will take guests through the Isle of Berk as you fly like a dragon. Expect some surprises along the way. Guests must be 40″ to ride, child sway is available, Universal Express is accepted, and single rider line is available most days.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders was so much fun! It is not too intense but has a few launches. The queue is outside which can make the wait a bit hot. Try to avoid during mid-day.

Viking Training Camp

This adventure play area featuring slides, climbing structures, and areas to explore is perfect for little ones. It is so cute and kids are going to love running around and exploring. Parents are going to love a moment to sit and relax.

Dining at Isle of Berk

There are 3 dining areas at How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk. They are all quick service dining with great menu options.

Mead Hall

Mead Hall is a Viking dining hall that offers casual dining options like meat, fish, and different meads and ciders. The kids meals come in a Viking boat! Everything we ate was delicious. Look for a full review of Mead Hall at How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk coming soon.

Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel

This is where the famous Mac & Cheese cones can be found! They are filled with a variety of options like pork, bacon, and cheese as well as Mac & Cheese and goldfish.

Spit Fyre Grill

Spit Fyre Grill offers meat and grain/greens/rice bowls. Guests can dine on steak, salmon, and chicken bowls at this quick service dining option. The seating area also overlooks Fyre Drill making it an entertaining place to dine.

Dragon Meet and Greet at How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk

One of the coolest things about Viking Village is you never know who you will meet. I was exploring the land and had a chat with Gobber at Gobbers Forge. It was a quick photo-op and a fun addition to the land. I also saw the twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut walking around interacting with guests. I really love when theme parks include character interactions as part of the ambiance of the land, it enhances the experience so much.

The most popular meet and greet at Isle of Berk is the Hiccup and Toothless meet and greet. Guests can meet a dragon at the Haddock Paddock. During previews this had a wait time of 45 minutes, I expect wait times to be really long once park officially opens.

During our visit there were no Dragons in the sky, but guests have seen this during testing. Expect to see Dragons flying overhead when visiting How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk.

Entertainment at Isle of Berk

When you are ready to rest your feet and cool down inside you want to check out The Untrainable Dragon show. This show features Hiccup, Astrid, and Gobber as well as many dragons. It has special effects and great surprises. The Untrainable Dragon runs about 20 minutes.

Shopping

I tend to do shopping last when I am at the theme parks because I love the rides but How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk has a few shops worth talking about.

Toothless’ Treasures is going to be very popular because this is where you can purchase an egg, hatch it in the store, and have a cute little baby dragon plush. Prices start at $21.00 and there are 5 different Dragons to collect.

There is also a Viking Traders shop, a treat shop at How to Treat Your Dragon, and a Viking gear shop at Hiccup’s Work Shop. You may want to leave room in your luggage for the way home!

Final Thoughts

Walking around Isle of Berk left me wanting more. We had one day to explore the entire park and it was not enough time to see all the details put into the park.

I appreciate the layout and the ambiance created by the Universal Creative team. All guests will enjoy this land. It is not only for the guests who love the rides. It is for the foodie, for the person looking to walk around and take in the sights.

How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk is another immersive land at Universal that guests will be talking about long after they leave the park.
