Have you ever wanted to dine like a Viking? If not- you will now after hearing about Mead Hall at Epic Universe. This casual dining option at the Universal Orlando park not only has a great atmosphere, the food is delicious. In this post I am sharing my review of Mead Hall, what we ate and the cost, as well as if it is worth including in your day at Universal Epic Universe.
Mead Hall is located in the How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk land at Epic Universe. From the outside guests are welcomed by two Viking pillars up the stairs and into the Viking Hall.
As you walk in you see a large dining hall full of Viking tapestries, a throne to try out (great photo-op), and lots of indoor seating. There are team members around to help you but this is a seat yourself atmosphere where you will order from the table on the Universal Orlando app.

Mead Hall at Epic Universe
Mead Hall is a casual dining option at Epic Universe. When you arrive you will find a table, scan the code at the table and mobile order your meal. During ordering you will input your table number.
Guests that don’t want to mobile order have an option of going up to a counter to order. This is good if you have a gift card or are paying cash. After you order a server will bring you silverware and drinks.
Menu
Mead Hall offers entrees, kids meals, specialty beverages (including alcohol) and desserts. Most dishes are meat centric but there are vegan options as well. If you want full details check the menu, for this post I want to share more about what we ate and our dining experience at Mead Hall.
What We Ordered
There are five of us dining and for research purposes we ordered a few different menu options and shared. I am so happy we did it this way because all the food we tried was delicious, and everyone liked it!
Our Mead Hall Order:
- Nordic Harvest Salad ($12.99)
- Berserker’s Meatballs ($17.99)
- Thawfest Platter ($49.99)
- Side of Nordic Fries ($3.99)
- Stormfly’s Catch of the Day ($7.99)
The Thawfest Platter serves about 3-4 people and includes wild berry bbq glazed chicken drumstick, grilled salmon, sausage links, roasted carrots, cipollini onions, nordic fries, and side sauces. I don’t usually like cooked carrots but these were so good. I kept going back to them.
The salad was huge and a great choice to go with the platter. I didn’t feel like I was eating at a theme park at all. It was a mix of kale, arugula, red cabbage, ancient grains blueberries, radishes, apples, trail mix and a raspberry walnut vinaigrette.

We were not sure what our other choice would be and the server recommended the Berserker’s Meatballs. (There is a server for drinks and to bring you your order, but not a traditional server like at a sit-down.) I was a bit apprehensive about the dish but again-delicious. This Swedish meatball dish was served with onion gravy, lingonberry jam, and smashed root vegetables.
One of the strange issues we ran into is they would not give us more than 4 plates to share the Thawfest Platter, they don’t want more than 4 guests to share. I understand this in theory but we ordered more than enough dishes to make 5 plates make sense. I did end up asking a different server but I am not sure why this was an issue. It was a small blip but wanted to mention that to be aware of if you are sharing.
For dessert we shared Stormfly’s Catch of the Day which is a cereal crumble chocolate mousse fish. This tasted better than it sounds and one is not enough to share for 5 people. It was gone within minutes.
My Final Thoughts
Our dining experience was fantastic. My big tips would be to eat an early lunch or dinner if you want to avoid crowds. The dining area is large but Isle of Berk is a popular area of the park and word will get around that Mead Hall is worth a visit.
We try to dine between 11:00-11:30 for lunch and this usually works well. Expect to spend more than you would outside the parks. Overall our total cost of Mead Hall was $92.95. If you want to spend less consider purchasing the kids meals or skip dessert. We skip drinks to save us around $20.00 a meal! The little savings can add up.
Dining at Mead Hall was such a great option for our day at Epic Universe. I loved that it is quick-service so it doesn’t take too much of your time but you are eating well and have a dining area inside to cool off and relax a bit before you continue with your day.
